Ladies and Gentlemen.
First of all, I want to welcome you all, and thank you for your presence, it is a pleasure for us, to have so many people present from all over the world, that today they come to render a homage to our father, Dr. Antonio Nores, the only creator of the DOGO ARGENTINO.
Today marks the 100th year anniversary of his birth, that you know him as the creator of this beautiful breed. But this great man, was a brilliant scientist, that excelled at his career, and his personal life, by achieving innumerable accomplishments. Raised in a dog loving family and the hunt of big game, at a young age he developed his dream, and achieved before dieing his finished work, maybe better that he had hoped for.
The Dogo was recognized and made famous throughout the world.
This fame, could be very beneficial for the breed, but is necessary to defend it day after day so that it doesn’t end, like the majority of the breeds, in that dog shows, all they do is show beauty, without appreciating what the Dogo is, a conjunction of qualities, where beauty , is not the main objective, when virtues like ability, courage and nobility can be developed. That’s why we appreciate the breeders, and we believe in the new commission of the dogo club, and all of you so that the great work of our father is preserved in time.
For that, is strictly necessary, that the breed standard of our Dogo be respected in its totality, breed standard that was changed without consultation.
Sres. Antonio NO DEJO NINGUNA DUDA, ya que parece que muchos no quieren entender lo que significan las palabras ARMONIA, EQUILIBRIO, MESO, FUNCIÓN, palabras que nuestro padre repitió hasta el cansancio.
Gentlemen Antonio DIDN’T LEAVE ANY DOUBT, there are many that do not seem to understand the significance of the words HARMONY, BALANCE, CAPABILITY, FUNCTION, words that our father repeated time after time.
The Dogo first of all is a hunting dog, then a companion, and guard dog, that is why we must take legal action to preserve the function of our beloved dog.
It is necessary that the majority of us or all of us to say that in our hands we have “The best dog in the world out of all the catch dogs and the best catch dog out of all the dogs in the world”.
Thank you
BEATRIZ, MARTA Y RODOLFO NORES
Letter presented by the sons of Antonio in repudiation of the change in the breed standard
Skull: Massive, longitudinally and transversally convex, dues to relief of chewing and neck muscles.
Muzzle: Of the same length as skull. The line joining the orbitary apophyses should be equidistant from occiput and upper maxillary aveoli.
(We have separated the skull and muzzle, but both constitute in its conjunction with the “Head” of the Dogo, that is typical and, has been explained in the course of this work, it pertains to the type “mesofalic” and it must have a convex-concave profile, the cranium is convex by the relieve of the insertion of the masticator muscles, classic of the cranium of a catch dog, type “masticator” and the muzzle and mouth lightly concaving upward, properly of a dog of great sense of smell.)
Eyes: Dark in color, well separated, rimmed by black or pink eyelids. The look must be alive, intelligent and hard.
(clear colored eyes or red eyelids, deduct points, variation in the color of the eyes is a disqualification)
Maxillary: Well adapted, strong, without prognathism. Large, well implanted teeth.
(the number of molars does not matter, it must be free of cavity’s, without prognathism and especially al four canines must be large and clean, crossing perfectly while biting the catch)
Nose: Strongly pigmented in black, with slight stop at the end. Ample nostrils.
(Pink or predominantly pink nose deducts points, pendulous lip is a disqualification)
Ears: Well on top of the head; erect or semi-erect of triangular shape. Must always be cropped.
(A judge can not judge a dog that has his ears uncropped, the judge must dismiss the dog from the show ring. In the female it can be tolerated for the ears to be cut slightly longer – like a Great Dane. The male is preferably with the ears cut smaller. The Dogo is a catch dog, a fighter and the long ears provide an easy prey and very painful.)
Lips: Fitting closely, short, with free borders pigmented in black. (Short lips are a must, to allow dog to breath through corners of mouth when holding a prey.)
Occiput: Should not be outstanding, masked by powerful neck muscles. Head/neck insertion must be arched.
Neck: Thick, arched and lithe, with heavy abundant skin which wrinkles as on the old mastiffs. (Sufficient elasticity on neck skin is required to allow for displacement when held by prey and to protect its body flesh from injury when bitten or clawed.)
Chest: Ample, deep, giving the impression of big lungs. In front, sternum must reach under elbows.(The Dogo Argentino being a working dog and fighter is obvious to state the importance of an ample and deep chest to enhance the breathing of the dog.)
Back(upper back or withers: High. Very strong with great muscular relief.
Thorax: Ample, on side view it should reach under the elbows.
Spine (backline): Higher on the upper back(withers)and smoothly sloping to the hind. (On adult animals having well developed back muscles and kidneys, the spine arches down slightly between upper back and hind.(dip) A longitudinal “channel” that follows the spine is created by the relief of spinal muscles.)
Forelegs: Straight, thick, vertical; with short, tight, close-together toes.
(The length of the toes must be in proportion with the forelegs, and have thick paws and thick skin that will allow the dog to move through all terrains without hurting the dog)
Kidney: Concealed by dorsal muscles.
Rear Legs: Muscular thighs, short pasterns with short, tight closed together toes, with no dewclaws.
(With good angulation, and remembering that the power of the leg muscles help in the velocity of the dog and the sustainment of the fight when fighting body to body with the adversary )
Tail: Long and thick, should not extend past the hock and be naturally carried down. In combat (it) is always up, in continous lateral movement, as when dog greets master. It should never curl over.
(It must be present that the tail constitutes a great help, with the changing of direction while on the run and also in the fight)
Weight: 40 to 45 Kg (88 to 100 lb.)
Height: 60 to 65 cms. (23.4 to 25.3 inches)
(In height and weight a judge must be inflexible because the Dogo being a big game hunter the smaller Dogo diminishes its efficiency. Any Dogo measuring less then 60 cm(23.4 in) should be disqualified from the show ring)
Coat: Completely white. Any marking or spot of any color must be disqualified as an atavism. (White dogs showing strong pigmentation of black on the skin should be considered inept for breeding, as this physical trait may appear and become predominant in offspring. A Marking in the head is permissible but when there is two specimens of similar traits the all white dog will be preferred, any marking on the body will be disqualified .)
Disqualifications: Blue eyes; deafness; spots or markings on coat; long hair; pink or predominantly pink nose; prognatism( overshot or undershot), pendulous lip, “hound” head, more than one spot on the face, any corporal disproportion. Long uncropped ears, Dogs smaller than 60cm (23.4 in), rear dewclaws deduct points, without disqualification.
